SALSA
SALSA is a platform that organizations, such as the National Foundation for Elderly, can use to support local initiators to set up and organize age-friendly sports group activities for seniors (55+).
The SALSA platform
The three pillars of the National Foundation for Elderly include active ageing, stimulating an age-friendly environment and fighting loneliness. A good example of this is OldStars, in which we adapt team sports so that seniors can (continue to) participate. Through our experience with OldStars, we know that especially local initiators and connectors make this a success. Especially citizens, and local welfare organizations set up these activities and know how to mobilize local participants. With SALSA we aim to better support initiators at different local sites with an online platform, so that they have tools to set up and organize group activities for seniors.
SALSA is a platform that organizations, such as the National Foundation for the Elderly, can use to support local initiators to set up and organize age-friendly sports group activities for seniors (55+). Through this platform, organizations share their own specific knowledge with group leaders and group leaders can also share experiences with each other. Senior citizens can see whether this innovative age-friendly sports or group activity is found in their neighbourhood, see in advance who is participating and ask questions to the specific group leader who stands in front of the group in their neighbourhood.
The National Foundation for the Elderly uses SALSA in the Netherlands for the OldStars program, to support these local initiators. Which exercises are suitable for seniors? How do you take different fitness levels into account? How do you keep the training interesting, so that seniors keep coming? The SALSA platform offers information and facilities to inspire each other.
